New High Brightness Tunable Broadband Light Source

Energetiq‘s new Laser-Driven Tunable Light Source (LDTLS™) is a compact, fully integrated and highly stable tunable broadband light source based on their proven Laser-Driven Light Source (LDLS™) technology. The LDTLS™ utilises the EQ-77 LDLS™ source and features the highest brightness and output flux available in a tunable broadband product.

The water-cooled LDTLS™ offers an extremely long lifetime (approximately 9000 hours between bulb changes) for low cost of ownership. It has high stability, very low noise, and is coupled with a precision high-performance monochromator for accurate wavelength selection and repeatable light output across the range of 300 to 1100 nm.

The spectral resolution can be customised for application specific purposes and ranges in bandwidth from 1 to 10 nm. The fibre coupled output is both flexible and convenient for delivering wavelength selected light to precisely where it is needed. OEMs, please contact us for more information.

OZ Optics introduces new Variable Bandwidth Tunable Filter

OZ Optics has introduced a new tunable filter that has the ability to tune both the centre wavelength and the transmission bandwidth.

Two independently adjustable thin-film filters allow the setting of the lower and upper edges of the pass-band region. With this method, the pass-band can be tuned from 1 to 18 nm FWHM and the centre wavelength shifted by over 40 nm.

BTF

The transmission band features a flat-top profile, providing uniformly low losses and low PDL across the pass-band region, and high rejection ratios outside the pass-band. Devices can be custom made for wavelength regions of interest and can use either singlemode or polarisation maintaining fibres.

Two manual controllers to set the upper and lower pass-band regions, with an electrically controlled model due later this year. Applications include WDM testing, spectral filtering, spectral imaging or microscopy, and others.

New SpectralLED Tunable LED Light Source from Gamma Scientific

The new SpectralLED™ tunable light source from Gamma Scientific combines the output of 30 discrete LEDs – each having a different centre wavelength – to produce output that can be programmed to closely match virtually any illuminant source or the spectrum of any illuminant reflected by a target.

SpectralLED™ can sweep through wavelengths to simulate a scanning monochromator, but with the advantage of no moving parts. In addition to superior spectral resolution and accuracy, the SpectralLED™ also offers about 10x higher brightness than any competitive product. This allows measurements over a much larger, linear dynamic range, and is sufficient to illuminate virtually any detector at levels up to saturation.

A combination of DC constant current drivers, optical feedback, and thermoelectric cooling maintains the source’s high luminance accuracy in real time, allowing brightness to be varied directly (through drive current), rather than by pulse width modulation (PWM). This eliminates any flicker.

SpectralLED-Transparent-Trimetric-Rendering-Final-500x500The SpectralLED™ will allow sensor, camera and system manufacturers to perform a wide variety of calibration and testing functions with a single instrument. Applications include smartphones and tablets, DSLR cameras, cinematography camcorders, diagnostic medical imaging, technical and industrial photography, or any OEM camera, sensor or detector application. White balance, spatial uniformity, defects, linearity, dynamic range, signal-to-noise, responsivity and ISO speed are specific tests the SpectralLED™ is ideally suited for carrying out.

EXFO’s new CW tunable laser offers 10 pm resolution and 100 kHz linewidth in the C or L bands

FLS-2800-1HRThe EXFO FLS-2800 is a continuous wave (CW) tunable laser with a high-power output, narrow 100 kHz linewidth and 10 pm resolution tunability over the C or L band. This laser offers a cost-effective and versatile solution for various applications, including coherent/orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission and WDM network emulation. The FLS-2800 is available in single- or dual-laser configurations.

The FLS-2800 is easy to directly control using the knob on the front panel. Each laser is controlled separately, and both wavelength and power can be adjusted quickly and precisely. It is also possible to view the status of and control the FLS-2800 remotely via the USB or Ethernet ports by means of EXFO’s TLM user interface.

New Sprite-t and Firefly-THz Lasers from M Squared

Sprite-t

Firefly-THz

As part of their continuous product improvement program, M Squared have released new versions of their Sprite-t and Firefly-THz lasers. The improvements go deeper than the redesigned skins, with numerous tweaks to both lasers:

  • Sprite-t now incorporates PowerMax™ active pump beam alignment and also has reduced  power requirements.
  • Firefly-THz has an improved tuning range, offering 0.8 to more than 2.5 GHz, plus output pulse energies now in excess of 9 nJ.

Read more about these lasers and download the datasheets on their dedicated webpages by using the links above, or contact us for further details and pricing.

Firefly-IR Scanner from M Squared Lasers goes live at LWoP

Firefly IR Scanner

A new portable, tripod-mounted Firefly-IR with integrated real-time infrared imaging scanner — the Firefly-IR-SC — will be launched by M Squared Lasers at Laser World of Photonics next week.

Firefly IR ScannerThe system is designed to bring a new and unique blend of performance capabilities to a variety of remote sensing and remote imaging applications such as:

  • Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detection
  • Atmospheric pollutant monitoring
  • Hazardous/fugitive gas emission tracking [Video]

The system is based on M Squared Lasers’ Firefly-IR widely tunable, high repetition rate pulsed MWIR/NIR laser source. With class-leading peak and average power and wavelength coverage, it enables users to probe a wider range of molecules with a single instrument, and to image in real time and at improved standoff detection distances and/or to achieve higher signal to noise.

The unit is supplied ready to use straight out of the box. M Squared is also keen to work with Elliot Scientific customers in the UK and Nordic countries to help tailor and optimise the Firefly-IR-SC’s highly flexible system modules (laser, scanner and software) for their particular remote sensing application. Extending the system to LWIR and narrower linewidths, for example, is already under development.
