Nufern’s new fibre coverings resist hydrogen gas and high temperatures

Nufern Speciality Optical FibreThe NuSENSOR™ product line, by Nufern, features graded index multimode (MM) fibres designed for Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS); and single-mode (SM) fibres designed for Distributed Temperature and Strain Sensing (DTSS), and Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) based sensors.

Both the MM and SM fibres are available with either pure silica or germanium doped core glass compositions, and Nufern is now offering these fibres with carbon/polyimide or carbon/mid-temperature acrylate coatings in addition to the existing polyimide coated fibres. Depending on coating chosen, the fibre is can be protected from temperatures up to 300 °C and H2 rich environments.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) gains with two new products

Fibre specialist Nufern and ultrafast laser manufacturer FEMTOLASERS have both released new products to boost applications involving Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).

The INTEGRAL™ core™ OCT from FEMTOLASERS, offers Ti:Sapphire technology in a revolutionary compact and robust package. Its state-of-the-art output parameters, combined with hands-off turn-key performance and low cost of ownership, make it the best choice for everyday use in medical, scientific and industrial applications. The high speed, high resolution tomography capabilities of the INTEGRAL™ core™ OCT are especially welcomed by researchers.

Nufern’s new 1060-OCT select cutoff single-mode fibre is optimised for next generation OCT medical imaging methods that operate at 1060 nm. The exceptional uniformity, tight dispersion, and core/clad concentricity control provided by this fibre is ideally suited for couplers used in OCT. Traditional applications benefit as well since the 1060-OCT fibre’s extra high performance specifications provide increased reliability, and improved production yields reduce costs.

Nufern Holmium-doped fibre now available from stock

Nufern have introduced two Holmium doped fibres, increasing the operational wavelength of their standard range of active fibres to 2150 nm. The result of years of research and development,  the fibres feature a double-clad design and the recently developed NuCOATTM coating technology, which affords greater durability and longer life.

The eye-safe Ho-doped standard fibres available through Elliot Scientific come in two geometrical configurations — a 25 µm core diameter with a 250 µm clad diameter,  and a 40 µm core diameter with a 400 µm clad diameter. These fibres achieve 60% efficiency when resonantly pumped with a Thulium fibre laser. The optimal operating wavelength range for Ho-doped fibre is between 2000 and 2150 nm, making them an ideal choice for a variety of medical lasers as well as power scaling for a host of military laser applications such as LIDAR.

For more information about these fibres and others we offer from Nufern, please contact us.
