nPoint Piezo Nanopositioners now available through Elliot Scientific

Elliot Scientific is pleased to announce that it has been selected by nPoint, Inc. to be the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor of their nanopositioning solutions.

nPoint specialises in piezo actuator driven flexure stages available in one, two or three axes of motion. In conjunction with their ultra-precision motion control scanners and controllers, users can achieve the highest levels of performance available in the marketplace. Typical application areas are:

Life Science / Microscopy – piezo stages provide accurate, fast, and repeatable motion that enable high-throughput data acquisition and processing for techniques such as super resolution microscopy, sample scanning, autofocus, and cell tracking.

Semiconductor / Data Storage – nanopositioners are used in production, development, and inspection of silicon wafers and hard disk recording heads.

Optics – high speed nanopositioners enable movement of an optic for a multitude of precision applications such as scanning, laser beam steering, phase shifting, dithering and focusing.
AFM / Materials Science – piezo stages have been traditionally used as closed-loop scanners for Atomic Force Microscopes, offering extremely low out-of-plane motion, no piezo drift, exceptional scanning linearity, and longer travel ranges.

Photonics Packaging / Communications – in fibre optics, nanopositioning stages have become critical for speedy and optimal alignment duties.

Elliot Scientific will be demonstrating nPoint technology at various UK trade events this year, and looks forward to enabling researchers and OEMs achieve significant benefits from incorporating nPoint systems within their applications.

Laser Focus World features Siskiyou IXF mounts on cover for Los Alamos/UNM story

The July issue of Laser Focus World magazine uses a photo of a YLF:Yb crystal mounted between two top-adjustable Siskiyou IXF monolithic tip/tilt flexure mounts to illustrate their feature story on an all-solid-state optical cryocooler developed by the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the University of New Mexico.

Solid-state optical refrigeration uses anti-Stokes fluorescence to cool macroscopic objects to cryogenic temperatures without the annoying vibrations typically introduced by mechanical cryocooling systems.

The crystal was excited by a low power linearly-polarised continuous-wave fibre laser by IPG Photonics, while the temperature was monitored with a calibrated DT-670-SD silicon diode from Lake Shore Cryotronics.

Coupling the laser light to the crystal was achieved by using an astigmatic Herriott cell, with the optics held in vacuum compatible Siskiyou IXF flexure mounts…  known for their excellent mechanical and thermal properties.

Researchers in the UK or Ireland wishing to replicate this experiment can contact us for research lasers from IPG Photonics, sensors and instrumentation from Lake Shore Cryotronics, and the full range of mounts and stages from Siskiyou. Elliot Scientific can also be approached to supply optics and custom machined parts as well.

The full paper describing the experiment can be read here on nature.com.

Siskiyou add to IXF range with single axis platforms and mounts

Siskiyou Corporation continually develop their popular series of IXF mounts, the latest additions being single axis platforms and mirror mounts.

Mirror Mounts
The new IXF SA series single axis mirror mounts for optics in the 12.7 to 50.8 mm (½” to 2″) diameter range for OEMs. A variety of mounting configurations are available, including bulkhead placement with either front or rear (through the bulkhead) adjustment options, making the mounts particularly useful for space constrained applications. The mounts are currently available in both steel and aluminium versions.

Platforms
Two IXF-based platforms, each containing an arrangement of both threaded and clearance M4 (or 8-32) holes on both sides, are now available. The IXF.05S is a single-axis ½” square flexure with one M4 (8-32) tapped hole for mounting, as well as one on the top for attachment. The IXF1.0S is a larger 1″ square version with seven tapped and two counterbored holes.

Aluminium, stainless or nickel-plated steel
The IXF series offer exceptional stability at a low price point. Performance is achieved through the use of monolithic flexure construction, in which the entire mount – both plates and springs – are fabricated from a single piece of aluminium, stainless or nickel-plated steel.

Steel construction offers superior mechanical and thermal stability, while aluminium confers lower weight and vacuum compatibility.

Long-range Z-axis nanopositioning stage is especially designed to hold multiwell plates

The Mad City Labs‘ Nano-ZL Series are long range, Z-axis nanopositioners specifically designed to hold multiwell plates used in biomedical research. High-throughput single cell fluorescence microscopy and high speed, high resolution confocal imaging can be accomplished while simultaneously adjusting the Z-axis position to remove the effects of multiwell plate irregularities.

The Nano-ZL Series has true flexure guided motion and contains internal position sensing for a resolution of better than 1 nm over the full 500 µm travel range, and sub-nanometer for the shorter 100 µm travel range. In addition to high resolution spatial imaging, the Nano-ZL step response allows entire Z-section acquisitions with minimal photo bleaching. For more information, please contact us.
