Non-contact Visible Fault Location in fibre added to OZ Optics range
OZ Optics has expanded its range of Visible Fibre Optic Fault Locators with the addition of a benchtop non-contact tester, the ideal solution for inspecting devices with no connectors on the fibre ends. Visible Fibre Optic Fault Locators launch either 520 or 635 nm laser diode light into a fibre to enable discovery of breaks or sharp bends, which are revealed by the resulting scattered light emerging from the sides of the cable.
Fault locators are now available in four models: two benchtop and two portable…
- Benchtop Non-Contact, for CW and pulsed operation
- Benchtop CW High Power only
- Portable pen – CW only
- ‘Pocket size’ offering CW or pulsed output
Pulse modulation aids in locating faults under high ambient light conditions and improves battery life. 2 Hz modulation is easy to detect with the naked eye, while 270 Hz and 2 kHz pulse modulation modes are used for fibre identification by detectors.
EXFO’s new CW tunable laser offers 10 pm resolution and 100 kHz linewidth in the C or L bands
The EXFO FLS-2800 is a continuous wave (CW) tunable laser with a high-power output, narrow 100 kHz linewidth and 10 pm resolution tunability over the C or L band. This laser offers a cost-effective and versatile solution for various applications, including coherent/orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission and WDM network emulation. The FLS-2800 is available in single- or dual-laser configurations.
The FLS-2800 is easy to directly control using the knob on the front panel. Each laser is controlled separately, and both wavelength and power can be adjusted quickly and precisely. It is also possible to view the status of and control the FLS-2800 remotely via the USB or Ethernet ports by means of EXFO’s TLM user interface.

New IPG fibre lasers available to researchers through Elliot Scientific

A broader range of IPG Photonics‘ reliable diode-pumped lasers and amplifiers using doped optical fibres as gain media are now available to researchers through Elliot Scientific, including the newly introduced Raman series of orange and red lasers.
The four groups of laser systems, encompassing dozens of individual models, offer a choice in terms of power output, polarisation mode, pulsed or continuous wave, plus single or multimode, and single frequency options. Choose from:
- 1.0 micron Ytterbium-doped fibre lasers & amplifiers
Continuous wave (CW), Q-switched and single frequency diode-pumped solid-state fibre lasers, as well as diode-pumped fibre amplifiers, for coherent or spectral beam combining, sensors, He3 pumping, optical tweezers and SHG applications - 1.5 micron Erbium-doped fibre lasers, amplifiers & broadband sources
Around 1500 nm, only IPG Photonics offers the widest range of devices in a variety of powers and configurations for a multitude of scientific uses - 2.0 micron Thulium-doped fibre lasers
Medical and other research applications abound for these compact, high-power, wavelength-selectable, single-mode CW or pulsed sources operating in the 1900 to 2400 nm spectral region - Raman lasers: Orange or Red wavelengths
Up to 20 W from a super-compact lightweight optical head linked to a small air-cooled control module makes these lasers ideal for adaptive optics and guide star applications, flow cytometry, holography and spectroscopy

Astral Laser Measurement System is Star Performer

A range of laser calorimeters by Scientech are available from Elliot Scientific. These robust measurement systems utilise intelligent detector technology and a hand-held meter with USB interface and LCD display. On some models, a precision analogue meter needle movement is simulated to make laser tuning even easier.
The Astral Series detectors are available as either surface absorbing – for CW lasers – or volume absorbing – for pulsed lasers – and feature apertures from 8 to 200 mm. The larger aperture models can measure up to 1 kJ of single pulse energy. Each detector system comes with a calibration certificate and a variety of accessories.
Options include electric substitution heater coils for field calibration, fibre optic adaptors, bases, and an isoperibol enclosure for 25 mm aperture models when measuring below 30 mW.
Astral is also available as a CW, low power photodiode laser detector system for measurements from 10 nW to 1 W (depending on model and options).
For information and pricing of this and other Scientech products Elliot Scientific offer, please contact us.

New Datasheet for SolsTiS® Laser Family
With the number of configurations of this industry-leading laser now exceeding thirty, M Squared have issued a detailed datasheet to describe and explain all the available choices in pump power (output power), linewidth and frequency scanning.
SolsTiS, with its many unique features, continues to take market share around the world from older CW Ti:S laser designs due to its better power, noise and linewidth performance compared to competing products.
As the world’s first and only alignment-free, maintenance-free, fully automated CW Ti:S laser, SolsTiS is still the smallest laser of its type too. These advantages make SolsTiS the only choice for all demanding applications, including high-resolution spectroscopy, atom cooling, optical tweezing, holography, optical data storage and metrology.
For more information about this and other M Squared products, please contact us now.
SolsTiS® – the World’s Only Alignment-free CW SLM Ti:S Laser Hits High Power

Already the industry leader by virtue of its sealed, alignment- and maintenance-free design, the unique, ultracompact SolsTiS CW narrow linewidth Ti:Sapphire laser now adds output powers >5 W to its wide range of available options and model configurations.
The new high power SolsTiS® CW SLM Ti:S laser is compatible with all commercial high-power CW Ti:S pump lasers and can produce industry-leading output powers in excess of 5 W at around 800 nm.
