New Products from EXFO – Tunable Laser Source & Matrix Optical Switch

EXFO has recently launched two new products that Elliot Scientific is able to offer to the UK and Irish telecom sectors.

IQS-2800 ITLA Tunable Laser Source – Up to 36 continuous wave high power lasers in one box

The recent upsurge in bandwidth requirements by carriers is pushing next-generation transmission systems to achieve new capacity limits via use of complex high-order modulation formats like dual-polarisation quadrature phase-shift keying (DPQPSK).

The new EXFO IQS-2800 is a modular test solution, housed in the IQS-636 platform, that provides researchers and engineers with a comprehensive way to design and test these future ultra-high-capacity network architectures. The lasers are continuous wave (CW), tunable, with a high-power output, narrow 100 kHz linewidth, and 10 pm resolution tunability over the C, L or A band.

MXS-9100 MEMS MxN Matrix Optical Switch – Any number of M input fibres can connect to any number of N output fibres

The new MXS-9100 optical switch is the perfect solution for centralised instrument sharing or automated testing in manufacturing. With its all-optical cross-connect technology, the MXS-9100 provides a unique combination of low insertion loss, fast protected switching and high reliability required in the lab or manufacturing environment. It allows any of M input fibres to connect to any of N output fibres in a fully non-blocking manner.

Firefly IR laser features high pulse energy and peak power

M Squared Lasers has just released revised specifications for their Firefly-IR. The improved performance of this innovative, widely tunable infrared laser source brings new capabilities to a host of molecular spectroscopy, remote sensing and imaging applications.

Firefly IR Features

  • High pulse energy and peak power –
    • Greater detection sensitivity & stand-off distances
    • Enhances signal to noise ratio
  • High repetition rate –
    • Rapid data acquisition
    • Real time imaging
  • Data logging –
    • Combine wavelength & measured data into single file
  • ICE-BLOC control

Firefly-IR’s broad mid-infrared wavelength coverage (~2.5 – 4.5 µm) allows users to probe the absorption features of many different molecules with a single device. Available in two standard power levels (Firefly-IR-250 and (Firefly-IR-60), the laser’s high average power and correspondingly high peak power (up to 200 W) afford high detection sensitivity and greater standoff distances. For more information, please contact us or download the Firefly-IR datasheet.

BPF Series THz and IR Band Pass Filters from Lake Shore

Lake Shore’s BPF Series band pass filters are specifically designed for applications where precision and dependability are paramount, especially when used in extreme environments. Over 100 standard models include four common aperture sizes and over 25 center wavelengths (CWLs) spanning from 10 to 590 µm (about 500 GHz to 30 THz), making these filters readily available to researchers who want to avoid custom engineering charges and get on with their work without delay.

Features and capabilities

  • Precision frequency selective surfaces (FSS) for high spectral resolution
  • Narrow pass bands with excellent transmission
  • Pure gold filter element for best results in thermal cycling and gamma radiation conditions
  • Designed for use in cryostats and adjacent to cooled detectors
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Superior performance with “stacked” configurations
  • Temperature stable and radiation tolerant
  • Three year warranty
